Fad or crash diets come in a great variety and aim to achieve quick weight
loss. Some of them are quite extreme and can be a health hazard. These include
the Watercress Soup diet, the Victoria’s Secret diet, and the Drunk diet. The
Drunk diet, for example, involves drinking whisky and exercising. Other crash
diets are the Chicken Soup, Scaresdale, and Metabolism diet.

The Scaresdale diet is a [weight loss system] and a very low-calorie diet.
Dieters can have protein bread, grapefruit, and tea or coffee for breakfast. The
lunch menu includes fruit salad with tea or coffee or a slice of protein bread,
spinach, and low-fat cheese. Dieters can eat broiled or roast turkey and lettuce
and tomato salad. You can have a cup of coffee or tea at dinner. Dieters can
snack on celery and carrots between meals and should avoid honey and sugar. The
Scaresdale diet is a low-fat, low-calorie diet  that can lead to diarrhea,
constipation, fatigue, and irritability.

Created by Dr. Scott Rigden, the Metabolism diet is a crash diet that aims to
achieve weight loss and management. Rigden believes that some metabolic
disorders and conditions prevent successful weight loss. These include food and
carbohydrate hypersensitivity, hormonal imbalance, and Metabolic Syndrome. There
is a list of recommended foods, including low-starch vegetables, eggs, salmon,
and avocado. Other allowed foods are whole grain bread, raw nuts, brown rice,
and legumes. The Ultra Metabolism diet is one variety, developed by Mark Hyman.
Dieters eat whole foods that aid liver detoxification. They facilitate the
growth of liver enzymes and reduce the risk for cancer. According to Hyman,
[healthy weight loss diets] should be based on liver cleansing and improving the
thyroid function. The keys to weight loss include stress reduction and appetite
control.  Dieters should drink about two liters of caffeine-free drinks a
day. They can choose from different low-carb recipes such as egg cups, roasted
chicken bread, and prawn salad with light mayonnaise.

Other crash diets include the Junk Food, Beverly Hills, Lemonade, and Cookie
diet. Dieters who are on the Cookie Diet are allowed to eat 9 cookies a day.
Cookies have 60 calories each. Dieters are allowed to eat special soups,
cookies, and shakes. The Beverly Hills diet includes 3 groups of foods – fat,
protein, and fruits. Dieters can have protein in the form of milk and dairy
products, meat, and high-protein vegetables. Foods that contain fat are allowed,
except trans, saturated, and animal fats. Proponents of the Beverly Hills Diet
claim that there are many benefits associated with this dietary plan. Lower risk
for type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and hypertension are some of the
purported health benefits. Dieters should eat different fruits that are rich in
minerals and vitamins and avoid products that contain artificial flavors,
sweeteners, and preservatives. There are some celebrity low-carb diet as well. Such
diets are the Grapefruit Oil diet, Perricone diet, and Bacteria diet. Proponents
of the Bacteria diet believe that microbes reduce the risk for cancer and
improve digestion.
